The Hoodia gordonii plant is one that the Indigenous San peoples fight with outsiders about in South Africa. Professor Laura Foster is Gender Studies works with the San peoples and the Hoodia plant to think about intellectual property. The Hoodia plant is used for many reasons for the San peoples while Unilever came in and used it for dieting. If you look  at the link above, the plant looks very different from the pictures on Google. The introductory chapter of Professor Foster's book will be extremely helpful. I think Wells Library has a copy.
